History:
The Appleton West Rotary Club was started during the Rotary year of 1970-1971 with the election of Hartly Barker of the Appleton Rotary Club as new Governor of District 6220. One of Hartley's goals was the formation of a second club in the Appleton area. Soon after his election to office, July 28,1970, he obtained a territorial release from the sponsoring Appleton Club.
As the office of District Governor requires a concentrated effort of visiting all of the clubs in the district, Hartley appointed Walt Wieckert as his special emissary for the formation of the new club.
It was a wise choice and things happened rapidly giving our club the title of "The Fast Action Club". The rapid sequence of events started on September 4, 1970 and concluded with our Charter Night, held at Butte des Morts Country Club, on February 2, 1971.
