SAMP makes a decision about where to ship supplies based on the following general criteria:

  • There must be a Rotary club in place who will take responsibility for receiving and distributing the shipment.
  • The receiving Rotary club is also responsible for:
    • working with its respective government to eliminate customs fees
    • removing the goods from the shipper's warehouse. (if shipments are left in the warehouse there is a $50 charge per day after 7 days, which Appleton Rotary cannot pay.)
  • If another Rotary club is willing to pay for shipping and handle the other arrangments noted, we will likely send to them
  • If we are having trouble with local storage, we will look for a relief organization that will ship for free.

The Sharing Around (the World) Medical Project (SAMP) is a recycling program for the salvage of reusable medical equipment, blankets and supplies. These materials are being collected by Rotary District 6220 in northeastern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, and shipped to countries throughout the world where there is need. This effort is designed to support the Rotary World Community Service mission in impoverished countries.
