Tour of Polish Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public Museum’s Body World exhibit, April 17

Since he wants to become a doctor, RYE student Alek Kozak expressed an interest in visiting the “Body Worlds” exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum.  Bev Harrington is arranging a motor van tour for 6 people on Thursday, April 17 leaving Appleton at 7:30 a.m.  A visit to Milwaukee’s beautiful Basilica of St. Josaphat will take place mid morning with lunch at Polonez Restaurant, a popular Polish restaurant on the city’s south side.  Entry to the museum will be about 2:15 p.m., and the return to Appleton should be around 6:30-7:00 pm.  If anyone has any interest in joining the group, please contact Bev Harrington at 920-231-4618 or at bevharrington@new.rr.com.  Please respond ASAP since Bev needs to purchase advance tickets to this very popular exhibition.  Exhibit ticket prices for adults are $21.  Senior tickets are $16.50, and student tickets are $16.50 with IDs.

SEVEN DAY NOTICE

The following individual has been proposed for membership in Rotary.  He has passed all committees and unless an objection in writing is submitted to the secretary within 7 days, this member will be admitted to the Rotary Club of Appleton.

Kevin Grater of 1557 Whitetail Drive, Neenah, WI 54956i has been proposed into membership by Jon Kester.  He would enter under the classification of Mechanical Contractor.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       Thanks to the 57 members who donated $5,115 for Alek and Rejoice to go on one of the Rotary Youth Exchange summer trip.  These funds will pay for all their expenses including airfare, deluxe motor coach transportation, accommodations, meals, tour guide and taxes as well as having some spending money.

·       There was an article in the Door County Advocate titled “Cultures Meld in Sevastopol – African Exchange Students Delight, Enlighten Local Kids”.  This article talked about Farie Murumbi, a 16-year-old from Harare, Zimbabwe, our RYE inbound student Chwayita “Rejoice” Ngesi, an 18-year-old from Carletonville, South Africa, and Jimmy Baxter, a 16-year-old from Mutare, Zimbabwe who arrived in Wisconsin about a month ago.  To read the article, go to: http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080227/ADV01/80226182/2011/adv.

·       Thanks to Bill Harke and Time Warner Cable, a special public service announcement promoting our Rotary Club of Appleton will be running several times a day over the next few weeks.  It is difficult to identify the exact times this spot will be running but if you have a digital box you can tune to Channel 1111.  This is a free service to anyone with a box.  Use the arrow keys around the select button on your remote.  Click over to the all-new category.  Scroll to the Rotary spot.  Push the blue “b” button.  The spot will play.  You can fast forward, reverse or pause it.  If you don’t have a digital box, please watch the Time Warner Cable Channel as often as you can and hopefully you will see the PSA.

·       If you know of a Rotarian in the hospital, please let Merle Mueller, Bill Anciaux or Kathy Dreyer know.

·       We will be co-hosting (with Appleton West) a Group Study Exchange team from Sao Paulo, Brazil May 28-June 1, 2008.  If you would like to serve on the committee or be a host family, please contact Jay Drzewiecki at 734-2555.
