HISTORY MINUTE

Last month, Wayne Defferding talked about the formation of districts.  Today he discussed our district – District 6220.  In 1915, our district consisted of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Upper Michigan and Central Canada.  In 1968, the boundaries changed to Appleton Breakfast (the southernmost), Manistique, Michigan (easternmost), Ironwood, Michigan (westernmost) and Calumet / Laurium / Keweenaw (northernmost).  In 1915, the first club in District 6220 was formed in Wausau and the second in Marquette on March 1, 1916.  Our club has had 7 District Governors:  Paul Groth (1990-1991), Richard Calder (1986-1987), Hartley Barker (1970-1971), Mitchell Gorrow (1962-1963), Carl Schroeder (1956-1957), J. B. MacLauren (1933-1934) and Lee Rasey (1925-1926).

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·       Someone left a pair of glasses at the meeting on Tuesday.  If they belong to you, contact Kathy Dreyer at 731-4427.

·       Rejoice Ngesi, our inbound RYE student, shared a motivational story of how to stay focused in life.

·       The Rotarian of the Year is awarded at the end of the President’s term.  Members being considered should have demonstrated outstanding service as a Rotarian during the concluding Rotary year.  Such service would reflect exceptional leadership for a major club project or multiple projects, exceptional service in a key leadership role within the club, or noteworthy contribution to the community in the name of the Club.    While nomination by the President and ratified by the Recognitions Committee, the choice would readily be a consensus choice of the general membership based upon the candidate’s service as a Rotarian during the past year.  If you have any suggestions, please forward them to President Jeff at jeffarch@martenson-eisele.com.

·       The Family of Rotary Committee is planning a number of activities to involve families and build better friendships.  The committee is coordinating and encouraging members of our downtown club to attend Appleton West Rotary's annual golf outing. It will be held Tuesday, May 20 at Butte Des Morts Country Club. Singles, twosomes, foursomes are all welcome! For details, please e-mail Joe Pankratz at joe@avenuejewelers.com. On Tuesday, May 27, a pizza party is being planned prior to packing for SAMP.  Children need to be at least 12 years of age to pack.  On Saturday, June 14, the committee is getting members and their families together for the All American Outdoor Concert at the Fox Cities Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

RYE STUDENT UPDATE – HALEY DOMNICK

I know it’s been quite some time since I have written to you all. I think the last time I talked to some of you was when I called come for Easter! Which by the way... Happy late Easter to all of you I didn't talk to. Sorry about that.

Not too much new is going on here. For the week of Easter here I went to Cordoba (another ¨state¨) with my family for a vacation. We stayed in a really nice resort type place with a really pretty view of the mountains over looking the city. And for being fall at this time it was still really hot, so we were in the pool most of the time. After about a half a week in Cordoba we went to La Pampa to visit some friends of my family. There, there wasn't much that we did because La Pampa is more of countryside stuff and not much to do but it was still fun because I hung out with the daughter of the family and her friends so that made it fun.

But after all my vacation off of school I had to go back. jaja. So now I am in school again. So far I am liking this year a lot more because I understand a lot more and with that I am able to do more as well! But other than normal school stuff and have been hanging out with my friends a lot and using what time I have left here with them!! Because after these next three months I don't know what I am going to do without them!! So we are taking it day by day with the fun!

Sometime this week I am also planning on baking for my family. I'm still waiting for my Mac and Cheese and Peanut butter from the mail, but I think I will make them some Sloppy Joes and Banana Bread! When I told my host Mom about Banana Bread she was really excited because they don't have any type of food with bananas.

So overall everything is still going really good. I'm loving the Argentina life!
