Rotary Medical Supplies
The SAMP project to Jamaica - a joint project with the Rotary Club of Christiana, Jamaica
The project was one between SAMP and the Rotary Club of Christiana with the assistance of the Ministry
of Health, Jamaica.
The Ministry of Health, arranged clearance and distribution of the medical supplies to the most needy
hospitals and clinics across the island. Distribution was on a national scale and not confined to the
geographical area of the Christiana club. 22 hospitals and clinics across the island were assisted. In
addition the library of the Ministry of Health, Head office itself and the Dental Training school were
provided with medical literature The Government of Jamaica has an Eye programme with Cuba
to do cataract operations. This facility also received medical equipment form the SAMP project.
The Christian Rotary consisted of four members PADG Ron Hamilton as coordinator, Pres Winston
McFarlane, Pres Elect Donovan Cunningham, PP Vernon Chong and Mrs. Celia Barnes from the Ministry
of Health. They were assisted by twenty two matrons from the hospitals and clinics which were
beneficiaries of the project.
This project has assisted the government to deliver on its free medical care for all needy citizens across
Jamaica. Approximately 554,500 persons have benefited from the project over the year as a result of
the donations. A similar or even greater amount of persons are expected to benefit during the current
calendar year.
Pictures show volunteer dentists using some of the equipment donated by the SAMP project at
temporary clinics set up by the Rotary club.
