SAMP
COORDINATING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
January 20, 2004

The meeting commenced at 5:30 pm at the Appleton Public Library lower level meeting room.  Attending were Ron Altenberg, Carol Busey, Ray Durkee, Barbara Kelly, Todd Trueblood, and Ram Shet.

The minutes of the Oct. 21, 2003  meeting were approved unanimously.

There will be two shipments this year to Zimbabwe.  Jim Schultz from Rhinelander would like to send a shipment to Russia in February.  They have some specialized equipment plus about 36 gaylords worth of supplies.  We will contribute the balance.  The Rhinelander club will pay the shipping costs, and make arrangements with the shipping company.

We have also had contact with Pakistan, and hope that a shipment will go there also in February.  A shipment will also go to Jamaica that month.

Busey, Durkee and Altenberg repacked several of our stored gaylords and found some confusion with the numbering of inventory sheets.  At least 10 boxes will need to be reviewed and renumbered.

Starting now, there will be a $1 per box per month paid to Graebel, plus $120 per load for staff who load trucks for shipments.  This is a very reasonable cost, and the committee wishes to express many thanks to Graebel for all their efforts over the last 3 years.

We will try to schedule a recognition event at a club meeting to thank publicly all of those who do so much for us from Graebel, Goodwill and WS Patterson.

Announcements at club meetings about packing dates are being done by a different committee member each week.  Packing dates will be the last Tuesday of the month each month in 2004.  Barb will put packing dates up on the website, and also the general informational brochure about packing that we produced a couple of years ago.

Busey has had contact with Westhill Rehabilitation.  They have agreed to make a sign for their lobby to let families know they can give used equipment to us.

Committee members were asked to email Carol or Barb with suggested goals for 2004

A Rotarian from Peru (Carlos?) who was a guest of John Wiley at the last packing, has requested a shipment for his area.  Busy will explore possibilities.

We will only have committee meetings as needed in 2004, members will be notified by email (with snail mail going to the last few holdouts.)
