SOUTHERN AFRICA MEDICAL PROJECT

COORDINATING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY, APRIL 15, 2002

1. The meeting commenced at 5:30 pm at the Appleton Public Library conference room. Attending were Dave Rothmann, Nancy Johnshoy, Carol Busey, Barb Kelly, Harry Spiegelberg, Ram Shet, Ed Shannon, Dick Calder, Don Sturtevant, Chick Fenlon, Jerry Otteson, Chuck Lewis, Donna Kidder, Tim Higgins, and Jeff Knezel.

2. Nancy Johnshoy presented the financial report. Fund balances at March 31, 2002 were as follows:

Administrative $41,498

Blankets 902

Grant 8802 1,609

Total $44,009

Additionally, Nancy reported that $4300 had been received in April from Rotary International Foundation for funding a container shipment to Pakistan for Afghan refugees.

3. Jeff Knezel reported that a 40 foot container truck had been loaded with 38 packed gaylords on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 and is en route to the Rotary Club of Karachi, Pakistan for distribution to Afghan refugees. We currently have remaining 59 packed gaylords in our warehouse, 38 of which are set aside for shipment to Russia once clearances are received. Packing in May and June (NO PACKING IN APRIL) should bring our undesignated gaylord count to over 38, enough for another shipment this summer.

4. The Committee has previously discussed sending a shipment to Harare, Zimbabwe after meeting with Dr. Richard Stoughton, a retired physician who is now a missionary in Zimbabwe. Dr. Stoughton will be requested to contact one of the Rotary clubs in Harare to establish a Rotarian connection for this proposed shipment.

5. Jeff was pleased to announce that Tim Higgins has agreed to assume Jeff's position as Co-chairperson of SAMP. Jeff and Tim will work together to allow a smooth transition over the next few weeks. Carol Busey has agreed to remain as Co-chairperson.

6. The remainder of the meeting was led by Donna Kidder as we brainstormed ideas for developing a formal marketing plan and revised Mission Statement. Donna will organize the ideas discussed for further scrutiny at our next meeting.

7. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at 5:30pm in the Appleton Public Library conference room. The meeting adjourned at approximately 6:40pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeff Knezel, Co-chairperson
