Understanding the Parent Role in Special Education Programming

Sherry Gundlach is the Parent Support Program Coordinator for CESA 6.   Sherry works with the Parents Information Network (PIN).  This program supports parents and educators in order to build positive partnerships among parents, schools and communities on behalf of children and youth with disabilities.

During this presentation Sherry will discuss many school-based topics including the ones below:

  1. Assisting parents in becoming active participants in the decision-making process of their children's education.
  2. Parent participation in the IEP process
  3. Best practices in team-building between parents and school staff
  4. Locating resources for families who have children with disabilities.

Sherry has extensive experience in working with parents and school systems in our area of the state.  She will have time within her talk to answer general questions about the parent role in the IEP process and the educational process.
