The Use of Video Modeling to Support Persons on the Autism Spectrum Date: Wednesday, March 14th Video modeling is a mode of teaching that uses video recording and playback to provide a visual model of the targeted behavior or skill. It is an evidence-based practice involving videos made using the child to help acquire or increase skills or change behavior. Diane Nackers, speech therapist for the Hortonville Area School District and Susan Brockman, special education teacher for the Appleton Area School District will present video modeling using the Flip Video camera system and the IPad/IMovie system. Attendees will learn the foundational information about video modeling. They will also learn how to use the Flip and IPad to make a video, edit and present the video to the child. Presenters: Diane Nackers, MS CCC-SLP, has been a Speech and Language Pathologist for the past 8 years in the Hortonville Schools. She works with children on the spectrum from 5 - 13 years old, as well as a complete caseload with varied speech and language disabilities. She is also President of the Autism Society of the Fox Valley. Susan Brockman is an Autism teacher at Huntley Elementary School in the Appleton Area School District for grades 3 through 6th. She holds licenses in the areas of Learning Disabilities, Cognitive Disabilities License and Cross-Categorical License. She has a Masters in Special Education. This talk will cover everything from home fire safety plans for young children to community/legal issues that may arise for adults with Asperger Syndrome.
