for Bibliophiles only:The reading tastes of the Desperate Librarians vary, but they all agree that sometimes desperation has to take a back seat to a good book. Here is what they're reading...
Ms. May and July:
"I recently finished reading Fatherland, by Robert Harris, a suspense thriller about how the world would be if Adolf Hitler had succeeded. It did not have the ending I wanted, but it made sense. I am beginning a nonfiction book by the same author called Selling Hitler. My interest has been piqued by visiting Germany. Also, while on vacation I read The Turtle Warrior (Ms. December's recommendation) by Mary Relindes Ellis and I would say that it is the best writing I have read this year. The subject matter is heavy but it is a beautiful book."Ms. March and October:
"I just finished Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors one Siren at a Time by Michael Perry, Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie by David Lubar, Unexpected Development by Marlene Perez and The Sledding Hill by Chris Crutcher. I am currently reading Flush by Carl Hiaasen."Ms. January and August:
"I'm reading a travel book by Catherine Watson called Roads Less Traveled: Dispatches from the ends of the earth. It's a collection of her travel essays that she wrote for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. I'm also reading Zorro by Isabel Allende."Ms. June and December:
"I just finished This Is Not Civilization by Robert Rosenberg and am currently reading The Turtle Warrior by Mary Relindes Ellis and Lost in the Forest by Sue Miller."Ms. February and November:
"I am reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling. Other recent reads include The Falls by Joyce Carol Oates, The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde and Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler."Ms. April and September:
"I am reading a lot of different books right now, if I only had the time to finish them... I just started both Polar Shift by Clive Cussler and the illustrated edition of The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. I just love the book and I can see all the art work and pictures of the places he describes. I also have been reading The Mother of All Parenting Books by Ann Douglas and for the 500,000,000,000th time Bears In The Night by Stan and Jan Bearenstein."
