Fox Valley Writers' Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month (no meetings in July and August). Meetings are held in the office building of Ridgeview Highlands apartment complex at the following address:
640 Ridgeview Circle
Appleton, WI 54911
Here's a Google map if you need directions.
Meetings start at 7:00 PM. Because our meetings are held in an access-controlled building, please plan to arrive no later than 6:55 in order to ensure that someone will be at the door to admit you. Sessions seldom last beyond 9:30.
Meetings may be postponed due to inclement weather conditions (e.g., schools are closed or other community activities have announced cancellations). If in doubt, check with one of the contacts. Rescheduled meetings will be announced via email and by a notice on this website.
Members assume responsibility for hosting and presiding at meetings on a rotating basis. Meetings usually begin with announcements about local or regional writing related activities and other business that may need to be conducted.
The rest of the meeting is dedicated to sharing works in progress. Each writer is limited to reading five double-spaced pages or up to three poems. Copies for other members to read are appreciated, but not required. Members can use the club's photocopier before meetings to make copies at no charge.
Those attending the meeting (average attendance is 8-10 people) can provide oral and written feedback to the writer. Critiques should be constructive and positive. They should address style, voice, organization, word choice or other elements of the writer's craft. Comments reflecting differences in philosophy, doctrine, or opinion concerning the content of a work are outside the purpose of this group and are strongly discouraged.
