Dear FVLC Member:

The Fox Valley Library Council will hold its first general meeting the 2000-2001 FVLC year on Friday, November 17th, at the Neenah Public Library.

I hope you will attend. I am interested in implementing a number of changes to the meetings of FVLC. Not the least of these is to assure that FVLC meetings provide ample opportunity for informal discussion between FVLC members. To that end, the FVLC Board Executive Board has authorized offering a light lunch at the Neenah Library at no charge to members attending our November 17th meeting.

By having a lunch available at our meeting site, we hope that FVLC members can both have the opportunity to chat with their colleagues, and more easily fit the FVLC meeting into their day.

It is important, however, that you notify Ken Hall with the number of people that will be attending the FVLC meeting from your institution. Please call Ken at (920) 236-5222 with that number.

Although it is also my intention to drastically reduce the time spent on the “Business” portion of the meeting, there are two proposed changes to FVLC Bylaws and an appointment that require formal approval by the FVLC membership.

Below is summary of the proposed changes to the Fox Valley Library Council Bylaws and the appointment which require approval by a 2/3 majority of the FVLC members in attendance at the November meeting:

ACTION 1 - That the wording in the first sentence of Article VI of the Bylaws of the Fox Valley Library Council be changed:

FROM: "The President shall call four meetings per year to include an annual meeting of the Fox Valley Library Council each May."

TO: "The President shall call two meetings per year to include an annual meeting of the Fox Valley Library Council each May".

ACTION 2 – That the position entitled "Council Webmaster" be added to the list of appointed positions listed in Article V, Section 4 of the Bylaws of the Fox Valley Library Council.

[NOTE: The job description and listing of general activities for this position are noted in the minutes of the October 13, 2000, Executive Board meeting which is posted on the FVLC Website]

ACTION 3 – That the general membership of FVLC accept President Craig Lahm’s appointment of Peter Gilbert of Lawrence University to the position of FVLC Webmaster.

The actions described above will constitute the only planned business at the November 17th FVLC meeting. The minutes of the Executive Board meetings for both August 25, 2000 and October 13, 2000 are available on the FVLC Website for members who wish to review them.
