MISSION: The mission of the Fox Valley Library Council (FVLC) is to provide a forum for facilitating close cooperation and communication between the libraries and information centers of the Fox Valley area in order to meet citizens' information needs. To achieve this mission FVLC has adopted these goals:
GOAL A: Reevaluate FVLC structure and programs in light of the mission and changing information technology, priorities and opportunities.
- Optimize the dissemination of directory information.
- Explore new avenues for resource sharing.
- Evaluate the change in meeting frequency and format.
- Reexamine the bylaws, including the definition of membership, and all components of the handbook.
- Solicit input from members regarding current needs and opportunities for FVLC service programs.
GOAL B: Provide a forum to facilitate close cooperation between libraries and information centers in the Fox Valley.
- Hold at least two regularly scheduled meetings annually and communicate regularly with all members and prospective members.
- Encourage continued membership and recruit new members.
- Encourage attendance at meetings by colleagues from all types of libraries.
- Continue to improve and update the FVLC web site.

GOAL C: Provide access to information resources for the citizens of the Fox Valley area.
- Continue the listings of serials in OCLC for non-OCLC libraries, and continue to pay for LDR storage charges for non-OCLC libraries.
- Encourage the inclusion of all member libraries in WISCAT or similar resource sharing tools.
- Continue citizens' direct access to information resources through courtesy cards and indirect access through interlibrary loan.
- Facilitate cooperative projects between Outagamie Waupaca Library System (OWLS) and Winnefox Library System (WLS) to enhance area resource sharing.
- Advocate continued state funding of BadgerLink as a benefit to all libraries and citizens of Wisconsin.
GOAL D: Safeguard and promote intellectual freedom.
- Monitor and respond to legislative activity at the state and national levels that affects information access and library service.
- Survey member libraries periodically and report on censorship challenges.
- Respond to censorship challenges of member libraries through appropriate and/or requested organizational action.
- Encourage member libraries to assist and support challenged libraries in protection of intellectual freedom through appropriate action.
- Maintain an organizational membership in Wisconsin Library Association through which FVLC shall actively support intellectual freedom and challenge censorship.
- Support the intellectual freedom role and functions of the Cooperative Children's Book Center and maintain membership in the Friends of the CCBC.
GOAL E: Provide opportunities for FVLC members to learn of developments in the field, foster professional growth and encourage exchange of ideas and information.
- Solicit input from all types of libraries and plan educational components for regular meetings.
- Continue to promote networking opportunities between colleagues of all types of libraries.
- Promote relevant workshops and informational programs to members.
- Provide education assistance grants to staff of FVLC member institutions and encourage grantees to share that learning experience with FVLC members.
- Encourage electronic communication via the FVLC listserv including the dissemination of reports from FVLC members who are members of state or national level committees.
GOAL F: In 2001-2002 the Executive Board will examine all administrative documents of FVLC.
