  5. Education Committee Report
Welcome, Elizabeth E., here to report today. The Education Committee is moving ahead. Meetings will be held on Fridays in October, December, March and May. The one that is set is December 7th, Terry Dawson, a personal experience program about his visit to Transylvania. Other topics being explored are: the intergenerational gap in the workplace, forgotten women in history, and why video games are good for the soul. The committee is meeting via e.mail and phone. They will firm up dates and locations as soon as possible. Thanks, Elizabeth.
  6. Discuss 2007- 2008 membership dues.
We are not going to raise membership dues. Desiree shared a sample letter that is mailed out with the dues invoice. Karen suggested that a blurb about scholarships availability be added to the letter. Great idea!
  7. Discuss membership directory.
We talked about the membership directory. Karen will look over the OWLS libraries to see if contacts are current. Desiree will do the same for Winnefox libraries.
  8. Discuss Fox Cities Reads.
This festival will run from April 17 through April 19 in 2008. Gretchen, Tasha, Pete, and Judy are all on the board. This is an exciting adventure and what we are all about!
Elizabeth made a motion that $500 from FVLC be donated to this festival. Karen seconded. The motion carried with abstention by Pete and Tasha.
  9. Wisconsin Public Library Consortium Library User Survey Results
Desiree steered us to the link: http://www.wplc.info/current/Wisconsin_Library_User_203-2007.pdf You will recall that this group was asked to help fund this and we declined.
  10. Directors-at-large reports:
    1. Karen-resource sharing. Things are going well! Pete wanted to know if courtesy cards need to be printed. Karen got back to ET promptly via e.mail. No need to print courtesy cards this year. Thanks, Karen!
    2. Judy-legislation. (absent)
    3. Laurie-intellectual freedom. Laurie brought up the dilemma of kids who read way above their reading level but then content sometimes does not match their chronological age. Great to keep communication open between librarians, patrons, parents, children, general public, one another, etc.

  11. Set dates for upcoming board meetings.
Dates were set for Nov. 13, 2007, Feb. 12, 2008, and April 8, 2008. All meetings will begin at 2:30. Desiree checked on location and got back promptly to ET via e.mail. All meetings will be held at the Menasha Public Library. Thanks, Desiree!
  12. Adjourn
Karen made a motion to adjourn and Tasha seconded. The motion carried. The meeting ended at 3:05.

Respectfully Submitted By,
Elizabeth ("Sound of the ocean soothes my restless soul") Timmins
