Fox Valley Library Council Executive Board
Minutes of the November 10, 2009 meeting
Present: Erin Czech, Laurie Magee, Val Magno, Tasha Saecker, Elizabeth Timmins, and Pete Gilbert
- Call to order.
Val Magno called the meeting to order at 1:10.
- Additions to the agenda.
None.
- Approve minutes from the Executive Board meeting, September 25, 2009.
Pete made a motion to accept the minutes. Laurie seconded. The motion carried.
- Treasurer's Report
None.
- Education Committee Report
We have a program set for December 4, 2009. Other programs are in the "planning process."
- Update on the Fox Cities Book Festival
This is the THIRD fine fine Fox Cities Book Festival. There is a good list of authors including James Campbell, Chris Crutcher, Kim Edwards, Lesley Kagen, David Wroblewski and many, many more. The festival will be April 11 through April 18, 2010. It is now expanded to a week! And, yes, it always falls during National Library Week-cool! Built-in programming! Smart! Val mentioned that perhaps we (FVLC) might have an educational program possibility of one of the authors from the festival? Val was encouraged to contact Judy Owen about such an idea.
- General Membership Meeting at the December 4, 2009 program.
Yes, Val will determine an agenda.
- Directors-at-Large Reports
Laurie's area was Intellectual Freedom and as such she mentioned the West Bend library and what a good lesson that is for all libraries to check their complaint forms, think about posting them on-line, and ponder the continued education of Boards of Trustees. Pete mentioned that perhaps this might be a good topic for a motivating educational program.
- Confirm date for next board meeting
3:00 Wednesday, February 10, 2010 @ the Menasha Library is the chosen date & time!
- Pass the torch
Val and the group congratulated Laurie Magee on a job well done (22 years!!) and thanked Tasha Saecker for her willingness and ability to step into the vacated Director-at-Large position.
- More!
Pete pointed out that the dues rate will be $25 for the organization. Val will need to write a letter to the members and contact OWLS for distribution of said letter. Erin asked how library personnel are being kept up to date in the FVLC directory. Pete receives bounce backs so he knows when to eliminate people but are we missing adding NEW people?
Pete admitted that the directory needs help so he will send out a happy missive inviting members to check and/or edit the directory. Thank you Pete!
- Adjourn
At 1:35, Val made a motion to adjourn, Laurie seconded, and the motion carried. In the after glow we all thought about retirement and what that can mean. Libraries and retirement may be another subject for an educational program!
Respectfully Submitted By,
Elizabeth ("Mama here's a postcard to let you know I'm in a salt mine and looking for coal Shanghai'd in Shanghai") Timmins
