Year in Review-2006

    

Developing Leaders  

GLBT Partnership:  a support and youth development group for teens 14-18 years old who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual,      transgendered or questioning (GLBT). 

  Etcetera: a weekly gathering for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered young adults, 18 and over, focusing on social activities, support, advocacy, and education. 

  Harmony Corps: a program to get young people off the streets, to help them develop life skills, to teach them vocational skills (as they help operate our coffeehouse), and ultimately to help them obtain jobs out in the community where they can become responsible, productive community members.   

  Parents Night Out:  co-sponsored by Beyond Boundaries of Autism (BBA).  Free live music and relaxation for the parents of children with autism at the Cafe, while their children have fun time with BBA's professional staff next door at the Fox Cities Rotary Multicultural Center.  

  Parent Child Playgroups:  social opportunities and support for parents of young children and structured activities for the children. 

  NAMI Teen Mental Health Support Group:  a support group facilitated by NAMI Fox Valley for teens ages 14-18 with mental health concerns.

  Tough Love Parents Support Group:  a support group for parents who have teen or adult children with challenging behaviors. 

  Blind & Visually Impaired Young Adult Support Group:  a support group for working-aged adults who are blind or have visual impairments. 

  Positive Voice Transgender Transformation Group: a supportive and caring environment for people who identify as transgender, transsexual, two-spirited, inter-sex, and for individuals who feel they live outside the boundaries of gender. 

  Yoga Circle: a weekly drop-in yoga class open to people of all ages and skill levels.

 Celebrating Art & Culture

  Free all-ages live music every Friday night: Blues, jazz, hip hop, reggae, rock, folk, country, pop, oldies, jug band,              klezmer, indie rock, classical guitar, piano, bluegrass, electronica, Americana, soul, R&B, Celtic, roots and funk. 

  Open Mic every Thursday: Live music, improv jam music, poetry, spoken word 

  Gourmet Organic Poetry: Poetry readings, spoken word and poetry slams combined with improv jazz. 

  Art Shows: A new art show every two months from a variety of students, amateurs and professional artists.               

  DJ’s and Dances 

  Drum Circles: Every Friday night 

  Family Night Out: arts, games and family-friendly music every Friday night. 

 Cultural Programs & Celebrations:  YouthLEAD Fox Cities Kurgan Sister City Program, Latin America Celebration, Women’s History Month celebration, Kevin Kendall Memorial Turn off the TV Week Celebration, Salsipuedes with Lawrence VIVA, International Pernambuco Initiative, The Thailand Project, Halloween Party, Holiday Fun Party (with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Arc), Benefit Concert for the MS Society.

  Soapbox:  Breaking the Silence (following the Day of Silence), Mike McCabe and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, 800 Vilages Shea Butter Project, Earth Day Celebration, Crystal Meth Awareness night, Horse (Mare) Abuse, Internet Dangers, STD’s in the Fox Valley 

  PROactive CONversation: Concealed carry Guns, Resurrection of Jesus, Gay Marriage, Death Penalty, and candidate forums for the 8th US Congressional District and the 55th, 56th and 57th State Assembly Districts, the virgin birth of Jesus.

  Youth Worker Coalition:  a monthly meeting for networking, resource-sharing and education for professionals who work with youth ages 6-25

  Aware Fox Cities:  a coalition of diverse organizations providing educational forums, events and respectful dialogue to raise awareness in the Fox Cities about local and global issues.

  Fox Cities Rotary Multicultural Center:  Harmony Café is an active member with the Multicultural Center, which is located next door to the café.
