Etcetera
Social, support and
networking for GLBT young adults
Etcetera Myspace
Program Details
Etcetera is a program for
young adults, 18-30, who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender,
are questioning their sexual orientation or
are allies. The meetings provide
support, social
activities,
education, advocacy, empowerment and more! It's a great way to
meet new people and form long lasting
meaningful relationships
outside of a
bar or academic setting.
Etcetera is one of Harmony
Cafe's newest support and leadership development programs.
The
uniqueness of Etcetera is that it stemmed from former GLBT
Partnership youth
who were interested
in starting a program for their age group. The GLBT
Partnership had been
so important to them as youth,
that they wanted to continue the positive gathering around
issues that were more pertinent to young adults: relationships, college, school, work,
living on your own, and how all of
these things were affected or not affected
by their sexual orientation. They wanted to explore "beyond being
gay"...
thus the name "Etcetera". Gay and more!
Etcetera is designed to be "by young people
and for young people".
The planning and implementation of this
program has been done
y a planning committee and the GLBT
Services Program Coordinator of
Harmony Cafe.
The goal, however, is to have all
programming take on the interests and focus of those that
get involved and be led by a group of Peer Leaders.
Etcetera began meeting formally in May 2005, operating under the
mission to
provide a weekly gathering
for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied young
adults,
18-30, that will focus on social activities,
support, education and
advocacy in the community.
