NAMI Teen Mental Health Support Group
Program Details
The NAMI Teen Support Group is an ongoing, weekly support group
for persons aged 14-18 years
who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. This is an
open-ended group, meaning that attendance
is not mandatory at all sessions in order to be involved, and
there is no specific start and end date to
attending. Equal parts support, education, and social
opportunity, the groups are facilitated by two
mental health professionals. Registration is required and forms
can be obtained by calling the
NAMI-Fox Valley office. Like all Harmony Café programs, there is
no fee for this group. In addition,
free food and drink is provided to all participants!
For parents and caregivers of children (under the age of 18 and
still in high school)
who have been diagnosed with a mental illness such as anxiety,
depression, or bipolar disorder
NAMI Fox Valley offers the education class, "Visions for
Tomorrow". This class, offered over the course
of eight weeks each fall, is taught by a team of two parent
volunteers who have been there themselves.
This class helps parents understand the biological basis of
mental illness and how the illness can lead
to behavioral concerns, current treatment options and
approaches, and how to work cooperatively with
school and treatment personnel. Parents themselves receive
understanding and support in a caring
environment, discovering that they are not along in their
experience and that recovery from mental
illness is possible. Education is the key to
understanding! More information about all of NAMI
Fox Valley's programs and services can be found at
