Welcome to The Lavender Salon's website!


The Lavender Salon began in March 1993 when a group of seven gay men and women from Appleton, Wisconsin, who had been reading gay literature decided to form a discussion group.  We were interested in learning more about our gay heritage.

Today, The Lavender Salon has over 40 members from Oshkosh to Sturgeon Bay, from Manitowoc to Waupaca.  We read and watch a wide variety of books & films on gay themes. After a common meal, we discuss the month's book or watch the selected film, and then hold a discussion (time allowing). We provide a welcoming environment in which to hold discussions on a wide variety of topics. Members come from a wide range of ages, educational and economic backgrounds.

The Lavender Salon offers an opportunity to explore what it means and meant to be gay through books (both literature & nonfiction), and film.

We are a founding member of the Fox Cities Rotary Multicultural Center and are tacitly affiliated with Positive Voice and other GLBT groups in the greater Fox Valley.

 

When we meet

Our meetings occur monthly on the fourth Sundays at member's homes.  Each meeting begins with a potluck dinner (which usually lasts for an hour) and is followed by the discussion.

Every third month, we forgo a book discussion and watch a film.  If sufficient time allows a discussion follows the viewing.

All meetings begin at 5:30pm
