2009 Volunteer Recognition Event
The annual dinner and recognition event for volunteers drew 160 guests - many in colorful Halloween costumes - to Riverview Country Club on October 27, 2009.
The LEAVEN board of directors sponsored the event at which recognition was given for hours and years of service. Volunteer of the year honors were shared by Pearl Kunz and Jeanette Bayer, both of whom serve as interviewers in the LEAVEN office. Together they have given almost 4,000 hours and 37 years of service.
Barb Holly-Fox, board chairman, praised all of the volunteers for their dedication to helping the poor in the community. Our 235 volunteers will have contributed about 18,000 hours this year as receptionists, interviewers, case workers, record and administrative volunteers.

The evening in pictures:
Board member Rick Stark and board president Barb Holly-Fox
George Washington (board member Joe Linder) and Jennifer Wanke (LEAVEN executive director). "George" was in attendance to promote early interest in next May's Human Race theme of 'Let George do it..'.
Competition was keen for "best costume" awards. Interviewer Joanne Delforge, caseworker Sue Ross, LEAVEN friend Pat Baer, and interviewer Janet Hemmen captured the judges' attention.
Every Halloween party needs a witch and creepy Frankenstein! (Ken Bilgrien, Hortonville satellite coordinator, and his wife, Jan).
The special events committee did an outstanding job creating a Halloween mood for the Volunteer Recognition dinner.
The LEAVENesque Players made a special guest appearance. Their hilarious rendition of the 12 days of Halloween, led here by Mary Zanto, Sue Taylor, and Judy Phillips, was a highlight of the evening.
