Volunteer Opportunities

  • Hundreds of your friends and neighbors - including clergy, nurses, accountants, students, and domestic engineers - are working to make a difference in our community.

  • Together, they donated over 17,000 hours in 2012 to help ensure that every dollar contributed to LEAVEN has maximum benefit to our neighbors in need.

  • Although some positions allow you to volunteer as your time permits, most volunteers typically work one three-hour shift a week. If you are interested in a rewarding experience, there is a role for you:

    • Receptionist: Greet clients, answer questions and provide information over the telephone, administer the appointment calendar.

    • Interviewer: Learn about client needs through an interview process and document client stories.

    • Case worker: Verify and coordinate client needs; determine LEAVEN grants.

    • Administrative assistant: Support LEAVEN in countless ways, from mailings to special events.

    • Records: Organize information about clients and LEAVEN activity.

  • LEAVEN has special needs as well, from interpreters to computer technicians. Contact our Volunteer & Community Coordinator, at 738-9635 or leaven@leavenfoxcities.org for more information.

Celebrating Volunteers

    • Kathy Kuck, Steve Graf (LEAVEN 2012 Volunteer of the Year), Pat Rauch and Liz Lokensgard represented LEAVEN at the Volunteer Action Council luncheon on April 18, 2013. Together these four amazing people have donated 9,900 hours of their time to LEAVEN! The council is made up of non-profit volunteer managers in the community that come together monthly to discuss issues and concerns relating to volunteer recruitment, training and retention. LEAVEN loves its 220 volunteers and couldn't help the community without them!

    • LEAVEN Volunteer Christine Cornell (LEAVEN Volunteer) was presented with the 2013 Heath Care Volunteer Award on April 23, 2013. The 16th annual "Celebrating our Volunteers" event was sponsored by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region and the Post-Crescent Media. Christine will be donating a portion of her winnings to LEAVEN.

    • The 2013 Walter L. Rugland Community Service Award was presented to John Stellmacher: (see video) John will be donating a portion of his winnings to LEAVEN.

Volunteer Events

Each Spring the LEAVEN volunteers are recognized for their hard work and dedication to the needy in the Fox Cities. On May 1 our volunteers welcomed in spring with their rendition of "Tiptoe throught he Tulips." In 2012, over 17,000 hours were donated to LEAVEN by 220 highly qualified volunteers. Thank you all for the tremendous support you offer your neighbors in need!

Volunteer of the Year S.Graf

Congratulations to Steve Graf who was honored to receive the LEAVEN 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award. Steve’s tax expertise has been invaluable to LEAVEN’s clients. He has educated clients on their eligibility for tax credits and the resulting refunds they are due. He has elevated the knowledge of both staff and volunteers by putting together tax resource guides. Steve has single-handedly improved the financial situation of many of our clients, often times by hundreds or thousands of dollars. Thank you Steve for your time and talents!
