More about FVLC

Becoming a Volunteer Tutor

The Fox Valley Literacy Coalition, Inc., is a non-profit organization that provides free, confidential literacy services to Fox Valley area residents. Our students are adults with literacy needs. FVLC is funded entirely through grants and donations, with approximately one-third of our support coming from United Way Fox Cities.

The Fox Valley Literacy Coalition works to meet the diverse needs of area learners and provides both basic education and English as a Second Language training.   We offer very flexible tutoring times for students and tutors as well as a variety of tutoring locations.  In 2005, FVLC helped over 500 learners improve their literacy skills.

FVLC recruits and trains volunteer tutors from the community. Tutors and students are matched and provided with instructional materials and a place to meet.  Lesson plans are tailored to meet the needs of each individual learner.  Each student meets with a program coordinator or director and together they determine the individual student's strengths and areas for improvement.
