The Gay Internet Index
(Formerly Cooler by the Lake’s GLBT index to the Internet)
If you're looking for information for and about gays, lesbians, bisexuals and
transgendered people, you've come to a great index! The purpose of these pages is to help you find useful sites with reputable information.
As of September 30, 2005 the Internet index: Cooler by the Lake, will be closed. This was an index created by librarians from Northeast Wisconsin to help users identify quality web sites. With the demise of the Cooler by the Lake index, Positive
Voice offered to host the section containing the gay & lesbian index. The Gay Internet Index is the result of transitioning the site from CBTL to Positive Voice. It’s our hope to continue to improve this useful index. Your comments and suggestions will help us improve this index.
The Rainbow World Fund is a GLBT not-for-profit agency that joins other humanitarian aid programs to provide assistance around the world where help, medical assistance and food are needed. Gay civil marriage continues to be a major issue in US
politics. Congress has failed to pass legislation to add a ban on same-sex marriage to the U.S. Constitution. You can read more about same-sex marriage and the challenges against offering gays & lesbians equal rights in the Families & Education and Law & Politics sections.
If you have ever wondered why gay people
want to marry, or why many gay men and women feel it is important to be able to marry? Take a look at Action Wisconsin's Wisconsin Civil Marriage Equality Websiteand their brochure: Why the constitutional bans on Civil Unions and Marriage is Wrong.
New to the gay & lesbian section of CBTL is the page on Statistics. You'll find links to statistical information on the gay communities of the United States, Europe, Australia, and other countries.
Looking for information about a specific place? One of the best resources for local information comes from local newspapers and community
magazines. Click the link to the left titled: Local Community News
for online versions of print magazines that focus on local gay & lesbian communities all across the world! Whether you're planning a trip, interested in learning about what's important to gay communities around the world, you're sure to find these magazines interesting. The list is limited to magazines providing news & community information; blue magazines are not listed.
Wisconsin became the first state in the nation to pass legislation to protect the civil rights of our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender citizens. Action Wisconsin has published a guide to Wisconsin's civil rights law for GLBT people. The law bans discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace, housing, and public accommodations. You'll find the guide here.
