What can we expect will happen at the Break out sessions and Activities?

While we are still working on the exact agenda for Umoja 2010, you can expect that many of the following activities will take place:
  • Age appropriate Afrocentric games and activities.
  • Mankala (Ayo), African dancing..., story telling.
  • Interactive activities about history and culture.
  • Family adult based workshops on transracial adoptions.
  • Braiding workshops for children and families.
  • Raising Black sons and daughters: What do I do?
  • Speakers who "walk the talk"..did that, done that, it worked!
  • "I am me" workshops for children
  • Drumming activities
  • Soul food dinner

Cost for the Conference - This covers programming, meals, and souvenir T-shirt

Before or by August 1, 2011:
$75 per adult
$52 per child age 3-17
Children 2 and younger are free

After August 1, 2011:

$90 per adult

$65 per child age 3-17
     

T-shirts designed by Umoja are also available for $5.00 each.

Lodging Costs
The Green Lake Conference Center offers hotel rooms at a special rate for those attending the Umoja conference.

Umoja will be arranging the room reservations. Just indicate your room preference on the registration form, and we will take it from there.

Bauer Lodge
The Bauer Lodge has Queen Suites with a maximum occupancy of 6      $148/night

Kern Lodge
The Kern Lodge offers family style rooms in different configurations.         $92/night

Directions to Green Lake Conference Center
Green Lake Conference Center is located just west of the village of Green Lake, WI, on State Hwy 23

From Chicago: Take I-94 west to Milwaukee, about 76 miles. Take I-894 west about 10 miles. Take US Hwy 45 north. See directions from Milwaukee.

From Milwaukee: Take US Hwy 41/45 north of Milwaukee. Continue on Hwy 41 towards Fond du Lac, about 50 miles. At Fond du Lac, exit at state Hwy 23 (Johnson Avenue) exit. Head west on Hwy 23 for about 30 miles (through Rosendale, Ripon, and Green Lake) to the entrance.

From Madison: Take US Hwy 151 north to Columbus, about 25 miles. Just past Columbus, take state Hwy 73 north about 35 miles (through Randolph and Manchester). Turn right (east) on state Hwy 23 about 4 miles to the entrance.

From Green Bay/Fox Cities: Take US Hwy 41 south to Oshkosh. At Oshkosh, take the state Hwy 44 exit south toward Ripon, about 15 miles. In Ripon, take Hwy 23 west about 9 miles to the entrance.

From Minneapolis/St. Paul: Take I-94 east, about 194 miles. At Mauston (WI), exit on state Hwy 82 and travel east about 30 miles (through Mauston and Oxford). At I-39, Hwy 82 becomes state Hwy 23. Travel east on Hwy 23 about 25 miles (through Montello and Princeton) to the entrance.
