December 2005
Dear Friends,
How do we create peace on earth? First, we create peace within our own consciousness and within our own lives. We can de-stress the holiday season as we discussed in our Thanksgiving Sunday lesson. It is possible to remain centered and at peace as we move from party to party, activity to activity this season. We can even slow down and breathe peace in the middle of chaos. Now, I will explain rule number 6.
There were two prime ministers sitting in a room discussing world affairs. All at once a staff member charged in yelling and screaming. The prime minister gently reminds the man to remember rule number 6, and the man calms down immediately. The prime ministers returned to discussing affairs of state and an outraged woman enters the room making wild gestures and screaming. Once again the prime minister reminds the woman of rule number 6 and calm descends. This happens one more time and the visiting prime minister can contain his curiosity no longer. He asks, “What is rule number six?” The prime minister replied “Don’t take your self so darn seriously,” (edited for publication). After pondering this, the visiting minister asked, “And what are the other rules.” The prime minister replied, “There are no other rules.” So when you are waiting on line in the grocery store, or dealing with an upset relative or customer or sitting in some traffic at the mall, remember rule number 6. Don’t take yourself or your situation so seriously. At the same time I invite you to take a deep breath, turn within, and remind yourself that you are a Spiritual being and your journey is meant to be a joyous one. We are made in the image and likeness of God and peace is our natural state of being.
So to foster that consciousness of love and peace that was central to the message of Jesus, I invite you to fellowship with us during our potluck on December 4th. Be in service by participating in our Salvation Army Bell Ringing on December 10th. Be joyful as our youth perform for us on December 11th, and in buying gifts for our Adopt-A-Family. Be uplifted by our Unity candle lighting service on December 24th. Be a peacemaker and join in a New Year’s Eve world peace prayer service. Be born again on New Year’s Day as we release the past and begin anew with the Unity Burning Bowl Service. Feed your soul at our Unity activities so you can feed others this Christmas season and remember rule number 6 and do not take yourself too seriously!
Blessings,
Reverend Morgan
