The Second Coming
We often hear in traditional Christian theology about the second coming. It is the time when Jesus returns to gather those who believe in him. In some theological circles there is the belief that Jesus will return twice. So I invite you to contemplate the second coming. For me it is any time that I feel and experience the Presence of God.
I often experience the “Presence” when I am in nature. This summer I had the opportunity to cruise to Alaska during our Unity Annual Meeting. Watching the fog clear as we approached large glaciers was being in the Presence. Hearing and seeing the large chunks of glacier falling into the ocean (called calving) was a mystical experience. Seeing the tail of a whale rise above t he surface was being in the “Presence” of a large and powerful force. Seeing hundreds of eagles all at once was a gift of tremendous beauty. The pictures on page 9 capture part of the adventure.
So I invite you this last month of summer to have a second coming for yourself. This could be a day in quiet, a walk with nature, a romp through Door County or sitting on the shore of Lake Michigan. It, of course, can take many forms other than nature, maybe a good book, a gift of spending time with someone you love. So whatever it is, set the intention of experiencing the second coming. I also affirm prayer as a vital activity in which you experience the “Presence”. So join us in our World Day of Prayer.
Blessings!
