Opportunity Knocking!
At our Board of Trustees meeting a few weeks ago, we had a rare opportunity. One of our church's friends, Eric Johnson, (perhaps better known as Stoney Monte's significant other), offered to match up to $350 that the church put up to send one of our members to the week-long Spiritual Education and Enrichment (SEE) classes at Unity Village in October.
Talk about an offer we couldn't refuse! The Board immediately voted $300 (with the remaining $50 being donated by an individual Board member) to send one or more of our group to a week of the October classes. The total of $700 will not quite cover all expenses, though, and the person or persons wanting to go will have to pay some part of it themselves. Rev. Morgan, our most frequent visitor to Unity Village, estimates that the total cost, including $325 for tuition, plus lodging, food, and gas, will probably run about $1000-1200.
So if one frugal person is willing to put up about $300 (or if there's two, about $650 apiece, with additional savings by sharing on gas and, possibly, lodging), a really remarkable opportunity is available to promote spiritual growth. As the SEE online brochure says, "SEE is devoted to helping all people bring a consciousness of the activity of God into every life situation. SEE classes seek to provide the atmosphere, information, and inspiration necessary to help individuals fully express their God-given potentials." I confess, though, that we did not support this activity just because we thought it would be a wonderful experience for an individual. We hope that anyone who takes up the offer will come back and share their excitement and wisdom from that week with the rest of the congregation!
