A Healing Vision
Unity was founded because Myrtle Fillmore experienced healing through affirmative prayer. When others heard this, they came to her for healing as well. Myrtle helped many, but she knew that she was not the healing power. She knew that the power was within everyone, and that all could experience healing just as she did. In fact, Myrtle and later Charles Fillmore, were among many people of their time who were rediscovering this phenomenon of healing spiritually. They were part of what came to be called the "New Thought" (not New Age) movement that developed around the turn of the 20th century. We continue that movement today.
How does it work, and how can we work it? The most fundamental value we hold is that we are one with God (Spirit). We live and breathe in Spirit, and Spirit lives and breathes in us. This is the premise for everything else. As we consistently hold that vision every day, we raise our attitudes and expectations. We expect health. We expect situations to work out well. We expect satisfying and supportive relationships. We expect abundance in all areas of our lives. This is the healing vision. We expect good, we look for it, and we affirm it.
When a situation arises that seems threatening, we are already standing on a firm foundation, knowing our oneness with Spirit. We are accustomed to experiencing good and expecting things to turn out well. So we meet the challenge with lots of positive energy. We pray affirmatively. We seek whatever practical support is helpful, whether it is medical care, professional advice, or assistance from friends and family. We maintain a healing vision. We deny the power of negative thoughts.
Ultimately, we find that the result of our experience is spiritual growth as well as resolution of the immediate difficulty, and that this growth stands us in good stead the next time something threatening seems to loom up. In this issue, you will find an article from Emily Ilg about her healing experience. Read it, and be uplifted! Let's hold a healing vision every day and watch what unfolds!
I hold a healing vision for you!
