Are You "Expecting?"
This month is one of great expectations. Little children are probably writing letters (or maybe text messages) to Santa. There are photos to be taken for enclosure with Christmas cards (or email greetings). Family members may be traveling to see one another for the holidays (or planning video conferences via computer). Adults carry shopping lists as they head to the mall (or spend a Sunday afternoon at the computer ordering gifts online). And then there's the food, and the Christmas tree, and the holiday parties. (These last three are generally still occurring in real time and space, as far as I know.)
For some of us, it is indeed the happiest time of the year. For many more, it is the most stressful time of the year, as we do all this Christmas stuff on top of our regular daily living. And for some of us, it is the saddest time of the year, because we do not feel a part of the festivities and we just want it all to be over as quickly as possible.
I'd like to suggest that you try modulating and moderating your expectations just a bit.
-
Take the pressure off by letting go of the idea that you must have
(or create) the most fabulous Christmas ever.
-
Choose those activities that have the most meaning for you.
Let go of those that feel like "have-to's."
-
If you are dreading the season, see if you can let go of that dread and live
just one day at a time.
-
Decide to be present in the moment to enjoy what is there, instead of looking ahead to the next thing.
Recognize the spiritual significance of the season, which is a time to welcome the rebirth of the Christ within you. The Christ is that perfect spiritual pattern of your being, and in this season, we renew our acquaintance with our Christ-nature, and look at it afresh. Take time to do that. Realize that you are a spiritual being having a human experience. Put yourself in touch with this essential truth, and allow each day of your life to unfold with ease.
I behold the Christ in you, shining brightly!
Merry Christmas!
