James Grine, D.M.A.


James L. Grine, professor emeritus of music at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, has taught studio flute and courses in music history and literature for more than 40 years. In addition to his university teaching, James has been engaged for lectures and programs on special topics by the following organizations: the Bjorklunden Seminars, the Clearing, the Oshkosh Symphony, and the UW Oshkosh-based Learning in Retirement community. A well-known performing flutist and teacher, his students have won national and regional performance awards and have secured positions in professional orchestras and top-level festivals. He has served as principal flutist, soloist, and associate conductor of the Oshkosh Symphony; principal flutist and soloist, Green Lake Festival; and principal flutist, soloist and guest conductor of the Victoria Bach Festival, appearing as conductor on Public Television to critical acclaim. He can be heard on INNOVA records. Other engagements have included a solo appearance with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Token Creek Chamber Music Festival, and three years as conductor of the Oshkosh Messiah performances. He is currently Executive Director of the Water City Chamber Orchestra and the Oshkosh Symphony.
